It is rightly said, “Education is the backbone of progress and development”. It is considered the religion of tolerance. But a few decades ago, education had become a source to transmit knowledge and pay much attention to the academic excellence. But now it lays emphasis on all round development of a child. Education should make the students to be physically, emotionally, socially and ethically balanced. It is to adjust to the present situation and make life best out of it.
In educating the children both parents and teachers play a major role. Worthy ideals put before them by their parents, teachers and others can certainly make them good and useful citizens. The attitude of the parents towards education, educators, value system and to the society in general will be reflected in the behaviour of the students.
The teacher and the school’s genuine concern is to understand the students with different backgrounds and concentrate on character building as well as intellectual excellence. This empowers them to develop their self-esteem, self-awareness and self-confidence.
At St. Dominic Savio College, the management and the teachers instil in the students the values that are needed to live in the present situation making them to become more confident to step into the society with dignity, honour and integrity.
Together with the scholastic programmes, we seek to develop different talents of a child. From academics to dance, music and variety of sports we focus on developing both mental and physical abilities of the students.
Committed and supportive management, dedicated teachers, caring and co-operative parents make education more meaningful and successful. I wish to thank who are associated with the school to bring out the best in the students.

"There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination and finish with education. The whole of life from the moment you are born to the moment you die is a process of learning." ~ Jiddu Krishnamurti
The above lines remind us that the role of school is not only to pursue academic excellence but also to motivate and empower its students to be lifelong learners, critical thinkers and productive members of an ever changing global society. This becomes possible only when students are brought up in such atmosphere in schools as well as at homes. The potentials, talents, skills and abilities of each student need to be identified, nurtured and encouraged so that they are able to achieve their goals and are able to reach greater heights. Therefore the role of teachers together with the parents is of great importance to make the students lifelong learners.
If we see around the world today the young children are losing social, moral and ethical values. They are carried away with glittering world of advertisements, social networking, cinemas, modeling etc. There is a sharp decline in character and self- discipline. Self-discipline is one of the most useful skills everyone should possess. This skill is essential in every area of life and though most people acknowledge its importance, very few do something to strengthen it. Self-discipline means self-control, which is a sign of inner strength and control of oneself, ones actions and reactions. Self-discipline gives one the power to stick to ones decisions and follow them through without change in one's mind to achieve the desired goals in life. Self-discipline leads to self-confidence and self-esteem and consequently leads one to happiness and satisfaction. On the other hand lack of self-discipline leads to failures, loss of health, addictions, laziness, obesity, relationship problems and also the loss of character.
Therefore I urge all the students to develop the skill of self-discipline. It is not a commodity one can buy from the market. It is a rare quality which one has to inculcate, nurture and cherish from early childhood. Through self-discipline will come concentration which will in turn help one to scale newer heights of academics and all round development. Success will be yours if you practice self-discipline and abide by it all times.
